CDMA Mobile
By Mobile (Cell) Phone Expert | February 10, 2012
CDMA is a type of cell phone network used by several mobile phone carriers (Ex. Verizon) to connect their phones with their mobile network.
Name
CDMA is the abbreviation for Code Division Multiple Access. This is the technology that uses several different frequencies at the same time to transfer date.
Competition
CDMA’s main competitor is GSM. All the mobile phones in the USA use one of these two technologies.
Phone Specific
CDMA phones have a built-in CDMA radio to connect with a CDMA carrier tower. This specific radio stops a CDMA phone to be used on a GSM network.
Data
Data on CDMA network is called EVDO. Data on a GSM network is EDGE. Both CDMA and GSM phones can send and receive 3G and 4G data.
SIM Cards
CDMA phones do not use SIM cards. GSM phones use SIM cards to connect the phones to their networks.
